Wow! Thanksgiving break has come and gone and the year is just rushing by. We have accomplished so much at our school this year. We have had some wonderful postive behavior rewards for the students, great assemblies that were very interesting, the AgLab was here for a week, we also celebrated Heritage Day with wonderful presentations and activites from members of the community. We placed in the top ten during a math contest at Sumdog.com. We also had one of our students who placed in the top ten students during the contest. Accelerated Reading is such a huge success and it is so wonderful to see the students excited about reading!

September
The sumdog.com math contest is underway!!! This is a math contest for all RESA 7 schools which the students can do at home or at school. This is a wonderful website for the students to use to practice and reinforce their math skills.
We have also started using the online accelerated reading program for grades 2-4. We are having a contest to see which class in each grade level can obtain the most accelerated reading points. The students read the book and then they take a 10 question comprehension quiz in order to check their understanding of the book. They are then awarded points based on the number of questions they got correct and the difficulty of the book. Mrs. Marsh's class is leading the way in the 4th grade contest, however, Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. Foster are very close behind. Way to go Fourth Grade!!! The winning class for each grade level at the end of the nine weeks will receive a pizza party. The student in each grade level that has obtained the most points every nine weeks will receive a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. The overall winner at the end of the school year will receive either a $100 Wal-Mart gift card or an annual pool pass to the new Lewis County Park Pool.
I hope to see more and more students using the Accelerated Reading Program as the year progresses.

Summer Break is Almost Here
I hope that everyone has had a great year so far and that everyone has expanded their knowledge about technology. It has been a great year for our students at Peterson-Central Elementary School! They have learned so many things about using Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel. I was very pleased to see the 3rd and 4th grade students that took their mini-laptops home and did power point presentations on their own for fun. Way to go!!
Please make sure that your kids READ, READ, READ over the summer break. I will post a link on Edline with some great educational sites for your child to use over the summer if you have internet access. The link will be titled Summer Web Sites.
I am sad to see the 4th grade students leave our wonderful school - we will miss you - but I know that it is time for you to move on to bigger and better things. Good Luck!!!

Testing...Testing...Testing
This year is going by so quickly. It seems like only yesterday that everyone was walking down the hallway on the first day of school anticipating all of the great things that were going to happen this school year. And now...We are more than halfway through the school year. My parents used to tell me that the older you got the faster time passed by, and of course like all kids, I thought they were crazy. I have come to appreciate their words of wisdom. It is amazing how smart your parents become as you get older.
I am sure the kids have kept their parents up to date on all of the activities that we have going on here at Peterson-Central, and I am sure that they have told them about all of the testing that we have been doing recently. We have completed our Acuity and Discovery Ed. Benchmark Testing, we are in the process of completing our Online Writing Assessments and we still have the Westest to look forward to.
Now, with all of our busy school work and testing, trust me, we have still had time to do some pretty fun activities here at school. Last week, we had Bingo for Books and many students and staff members came out to enjoy this event. We are planning to have our 3rd Nine Weeks Reward Day very soon and I know that the students love this activity. When else can you have the opportunity to throw a pie at your favorite teacher?
As for our technology here at Peterson-Central, all I can say is WOW!!! All of our 3rd and 4th grade students now have their own mini-laptops that they can use at school or at home. We have the latest and the greatest computer programs that our students can use on a daily basis. We also have several computer programs that the students can access from home if they have Internet access. All of the teachers at PCES use technology everyday to enhance the learning of their students and to provide a variety of instructional methods for the various types of learners that they have in their classroom. We are very lucky to have so much technology at our fingertips!
